Dental Fillings – White fillings

What are Dental Fillings?

Dental fillings are helpful in replacing areas of a tooth that have decayed. Children are incredibly susceptible to dental decay because of poor oral hygiene habits and the types of foods and drinks they consume. We use white fillings in our office that are matched perfectly to your child’s smile. Dental fillings can last for many years before it’s recommended they be replaced.

Why are Dental Fillings needed?

The most common reason for a child to need a filling is because they have a cavity. If a cavity is ignored, the decay will eventually have an impact on the inner pulp, or nerve, of the tooth. Before it is allowed to get to this point, the decay is removed and a small hole is left behind. The white filling is useful in replacing lost tooth structure and improving the look of your child’s smile.

What makes your child a good candidate for Dental Fillings?

To determine if a filling is needed, we will perform a dental exam on your child’s teeth. We check for cavities that can be treated using white fillings. Not every child will need a filling and prevention is key in protecting your children’s teeth. Children who have cavities are often good candidates for the procedure because of the benefits that come from having fillings placed.

What happens during the Dental Filling procedure?

Your child will have local anesthetic administered to allow the procedure to be more comfortable for them. The decay is then removed from the tooth and the small hole prepped for the filling. Composite resin is then matched to your child’s teeth and poured into this tiny hole. It is smoothed into placed and hardened with a bright curing light. The filling procedure is finished in a short period of time and your child can benefit from years of a healthy, full smile.
